Virtual Preschool
2020/2021
During this difficult time, St. Mark Preschool is making every effort to reach all families in our community. We understand that some families cannot send their children to preschool at this time for a variety of reasons. We have come up with a plan to keep these children engaged in meaningful preschool learning – from a distance. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under age 5 only spend 30-60 minutes engaged in screen time activities – including computer, tablet, cell phones and television. For this reason, we did not want our program to include large amounts of time in front of a computer. Preschool children need to develop small and large motor skills through work and play. While our virtual program will include some online time- biweekly zoom meetings, links to online readings of stories- it will mostly be parent driven. The lessons that come home will need to be taught by the parent or caregiver. Our teacher will be there – via Class Dojo (more on that later), e-mail or scheduled phone conference – to help and answer questions. Below is an outline of our program.
- Monthly kit will be picked up at the school. It will contain a monthly calendar and directions for parents, a supply list (mostly household items and food), supplies for crafts and STEAM activities, necessary website links, worksheets, Weekly Reader, book list (books can be purchased, but links will be included for online readings).
- There will be 4 days of lesson plans, with Friday being open to make up any missed lessons or work on enrichment activities which will be suggested.
- Twice weekly Zoom group meeting, 30 minutes- Children will interact with their teacher and friends playing bingo, show and tell, story time with the teacher or other activity.
- Daily e-mail from the teacher with links and directions for the day’s activities. The e-mail will come out the day before the lesson.
- Class Dojo App to communicate with other families and the teacher and to share pictures of children’s completed work, ask questions, share ideas, and just keep in touch.
- Weekly activities will include Letterland, sensory bin, STEAM or math, Religion, music, story.
- Since preschoolers cannot work independently, learning will be dependent on a parent or other adult working though the lessons with the children.
- The cost of the virtual program is $175 monthly.
