Family Catechesis

Saint Mark utilizes the A Family of Faith program from Sophia Institute.  Studies show that parental involvement is by far the most important criteria for ensuring that a child develops into a practicing Christian. Yet, too often we neglect parent formation and focus exclusively on the formation of the child.  A Family of Faith offers an easy-to-use solution for catechizing the whole family and equipping them with the tools they need to lead their children to heaven.

A Family of Faith follows a four year cycle for grades 1-5.  Parents are given a detailed picture of authentic and vibrant Catholic family life, the tools to implement this life in their home, age appropriate readings, games, crafts, and other activities to help them deepen among their children a love for Christ and His Church.  After four years, families will have been guided through the entirety of the Catechism and will have developed a broad understanding of Christ's teachings.

How does it work?

Each month, parents will gather on the first Sunday for a parent meeting.  At this meeting the Director of Religious Education will give an overview of the months teaching in an effort to help parents assume their role as the primary educator of their children. The parent meeting is from 10:30am - 12:00pm.

Next, two weeks later, the entire family gathers after a Sunday Mass (9am) for a short "community meeting" with activities ranging from picnics and feast day celebrations to prayer groups and adoration.

Over the course of the month, parents will teach two lessons to their children at home with the easy-to-use Parent Guide and the student activity books.
